Organising update

So I’m 7 challenges into the organising challenge and I thought I’d post on how I’m going 🙂

The first three challenges were pretty much planning stuff and taking stock of what I’ve got and my space.

Challenge 4 was all about paper.
I can say I have actually sorted my 12×12 paper into themes and placed them in ziplock bags. I’ve got the Kaiser paper folder and about 8 pockets so I’ve started putting my papers away (yay!)
My cardstock is now sorted by colour and in my paper rack, as is my specialty papers.
A4 papers are now in a folder and on my computer desk.

Yay me, most of that challenge is actually done, just need a few more pockets so I can get the rest of my 12×12 papers stored away.

Challenge 5 is about paper scraps. I’ll be honest, I’ve got as far as getting another Kaiser 12×12 paper folder. I need an afternoon to sort them into colour and then I can work on one colour at a time.

Challenge 6 – photos…. um next. Haven’t done a thing.

Challenge 7 – Ideas: I’ve got my four folders ready, covers designed, dividers ready. I’ve even sorted all the stuff on my computers into corresponding folders. I’ve got the filing cabinet ready to go & have even put some files in there. I now have a huge pile of ideas to sort and put into their folder. I’ve got all my double up of magazines ready to donate. that’s as far as I’ve got on this one.

On the upside of all this organising spree – I’ve tidied up my Twitter accounts, I’m going through my Facebook pages and friends and I plan to go through my blogs later today.

Back later with Challenge 8 – Projects, Incomplete Pages and Kits

Challenge #7

This challenge is all about sorting ideas and deserves a post of it’s own 🙂

At this point in time I have about 7 folders for ideas & a pile more on my computer. So I need to sort & cull some of them.

I want to get my idea folders down to 4 in number plus 1 mini (A5 size) binder.

Thinking about it I can realistically cut it down to the following folders.

  1. Ideas
  2. Techniques & Class
  3. Book of Me & Family
  4. Cards
  5. On the go mini folder

My Ideas folder will contain all my page ideas, sketches, album ideas
The other three folders need no real explanation.
The mini folder will be my go to book for ideas when I’m out cropping so will contain a variety of different bits and pieces – favourite sketches, poems, quotes, page ideas, journaling prompts, stuff I’m currently working on. It’s also big enough to store my 4×6 photos when going to crops 😀

Album planners, Supply lists, Patterns, Printables and Templates will all get their own folder in the filing cabinet.

I’m thinking I will get another folder similar to what I store my A4 paper in to store my A4 templates – makes them more portable for when I go cropping. BUT we’ll get to them in a later challenge 😉

All my idea books will go on the bookshelf (I own like 5 or 6 so they don’t take up much room)

Magazines – this is the hard one. I’m thinking I’ll keep the most recent ones – say 4 or 5 issues. Scan the techniques, ideas etc out of the old ones then donate them to my cousin’s kids who scrapbook. I think I have every Scrapbooking Memories mag I ever bought *sigh* but the more I get rid of the more room for new scrapping supplies right?

well now that’s settled I can work on actually getting that done 🙂

next post will be an update on how I’m going then I’ll continue with the next seven challenges.

Until next time.

Organising Challenge 4, 5 & 6

So I’m slowly working through these challenges. Just doing little bits as time (& the wolflet) allows.

Challenge #4 is all about paper. Deciding if we’ll store our paper & cardstock vertically or horizontally and how we’ll sort our paper.
Since I don’t have a whole heap of room anymore I’ve decided on two options for my paper storage.

1. Pattern paper will be stored in my Kaisercraft 12 x 12 folders and will live on my computer desk.
2. Cardstock, vellum & other special papers (shaped, handmade etc) will be stored in my paper rack and will live next to my drawer trolley.
3. A4 papers will be stored in a document folder thingy. Again this will live on my computer desk with my other papers.

Well that was easy. Sorting my papers was even easier…

1. PP – sorted by theme, then grouped by manufacturer (not sure how this will work but I’ll try it & see how I go)
2. CS – sorted by colour
3. A4 – not sorted cause I don’t have that many of them.

Challenge #5 is my paper scraps – I have a box full and they are a MESS!
My first job is to trim off all the unusable pieces.
Paper scraps will also be stored in a Kaisercraft 12 x 12 folder and will live on my computer desk next to my PP

Challenge #6 is photos.
I’m planning on scanning all my photos and then just printing as I need them. The photos I have here already printed I will go through with Mum and she can keep what she wants and the rest I will most likely chuck or put in a box to use in my art journal.
I currently have my photos sorted by year & then event and this seems to be working well so I think I’ll stick with this for now.

onto challenge #7

What I love:
The format. I love how it’s set out. I love the monthly calendar at the start of each month.
The weekly challenges are a great inspiration.

The website (forum & gallery) – super friendly and a great source on inspiration.

What I’m not so keen on:
It’s US holidays only. I guess doing holidays for every country would be a pain but I guess I’d prefer it if there were only the major holidays – like NYE, Valentine’s Day etc.

Organising my Scrap Space Challenge three

Challenge three had two parts – the actual challenge & a bonus challenge

I’ll start with the bonus challenge first.

The challenge was to start a design file – things, colours that inspire, scrap related items I’d love. Then create a plan and a room plan.

My room plan is pretty easy – it’s a trestle table, my draws on wheels & a paper rack. I’m still working on my plan of HOW I’ll store everything but I have an idea of WHERE it will go (either on the trestle in easy reach, on my Clip It Up, in my drawers, in the paper rack or on my computer desk)

Onto the actual challenge three – am I gonna start small or go for broke?

I’m going for broke as all my scrap stuff is already packed in boxes so I can start over 🙂 My boxes will not be allowed back into my scrap space until it decides to behave nicely meaning it has to be in its working container, all neat and organized. Mind you allot of my boxes have a variety of things in them so some boxes may get semi sorted 😉

Onto challenge four – Paper
