World Fair Trade Day

wft-day-2014-logo-light_green-small

Today is World Fair Trade Day and the theme for 2014 is Fair Trade People.

This is the first time I’d heard about WFTD so I thought I’d take a look at http://www.wfto.com/ It’s worth a look if fair trade is something that concerns or interests you.

There is even an app that is a poster generator. You can create a poster of yourself with your own words on it. It is also for your friends and families, your classmates or team mates, it’s for everyone that supports Fair Trade!

#IBSD14 – snowingindoors – Not a Perfect Parent

Hi, I’m Em from snowingindoors.com and I’m a family photoblogger from the UK. I’m guest posting for the lovely Caroline today as part of International Blog Swap Day. If you head over to snowingindoors you can read Caroline’s post that she’s shared with me all about the plight of the Tasmanian Devil.

Today I want to share a typical blog post, including my 2 crazy kiddos and some photos, hope you enjoy the read.

It feels like the world is full of perfect parents. Pinterest assures me that every other Mum spends hours crafting beautiful bento style lunches for their children. These same parents also create amazing themed bedrooms for their offspring, dress them in the cutest outfits, never shout, can bake anything, have immaculate homes and can throw a perfectly realised dream birthday party at the drop of a hat.

I am not a perfect Mum, hell, some days I’d be happy just to be classed as adequate!

I can be short tempered, hate messy play, often forget to make Annie’s lunch the night before school so she has to make do with a ‘throw it in the lunch bag and hope for the best’ lunch and am a useless cook. The kid’s bedrooms don’t have a theme, Annie’s birthday cake was a store bought one with a plastic princess toy iced onto the top and there are days when I close the door to the kids rooms to hide the mess, if I can’t see it I don’t have to tidy it up, right?!

I forgot Annie had sports club last term and arrived an hour early to pick her up, confusing the both of us! I tried trimming Ezra’s fringe (he had beautiful surfer style hair) and did such a hack job I ended up having to shave his whole head. I forget birthdays, umbrellas on rainy walks home, names and where we got up to in the bedtime story.

I kill any houseplant I’m entrusted with, forget to water plants in the garden, I don’t sew, have no artistic skills, can’t carry a tune and have a horrible habit of saying, good girl’ to Ezra and, ‘good boy’ to Annie!

Somehow despite all this both kids have not only survived, but seem to have thrived. Annie is halfway through her first year at school and can read better than kids in the year above her, Ezra is happy and uber chilled out, they both have a keen sense of humour, have great taste in movies, are polite, well behaved, seriously cute (go ahead, call me biased) and oddly enough think I’m fab – poor deluded buggers!

I have made mistakes in the way I parent them, and will continue to do so, but it’s wonderful to see that despite this I haven’t broken them.

Motivation

(I’m guest blogging over at snowingindoors.com as part of the International Blog Swap 2014. Em’s post will be up later today – Just a head’s up for later)

Pinterest is a bit of a smorgasbord of quotes and I thought I’d share a few of my favs today. I’m not into the whole exercise/weight loss motivation ones but more general ones.

A little history lesson

Did you know that George Town is one of the oldest towns in Tasmania? Second only to Hobart in the South? Settlement occurred in Sydney in 1788, Hobart and George Town in 1804 followed by Brisbane in 1824 then Perth in 1829 then Melbourne in 1835.

According to Wikipedia

George Town, named for King George III is one of the older European settlements in Australia, first settled in 1804 by Colonel William Paterson two years before the nearby city of Launceston 50 kilometres to the South.

It’s a typical Macquarie town design with the first map of George Town showing a central square surrounded by a grid pattern of streets. The first settlement was made up of around 200 people in all, including soldiers, convicts, one free settler and a doctor.

Some of our historic old buildings still stand today including Tara Hall (1833), The Grove (1836), Steam Packet Inn (1839), British Hotel (1846), the replacement Watch House (1855), Ben Hyron’s Cottage (c1850s) and Pier Hotel. The Steam Packet Inn is now know as Whitestones and the ghost of John Batman is claimed to have been seen at the top of the stairs.

Then there’s the historic lighthouse out at Low Head and the Pilot Station museum.

So now you know a little more about where I live 🙂

Go Go Gadget

(oh dear that brings back memories)

Hmm my favourite, can’t live without gadget? It’d have to be my iPhone for sure. It’s my planner, my journal, my camera, my social network and so much more.

My favourite apps….

calendar-iconThe default calendar because I’m yet to find a free one I like better. I’m open to suggestions for something good.

IMG_07891Momento for journaling. I can’t say how much I love this app. I can journal everyday. It pulls all my linked social network posts and blogs posts. I can add photos. I’ve just learned I can back it up to Dropbox (which is great cause now I just upload the backup every couple of days & then I don’t have to stress about loosing anything – which happened last year)

My photography folder is the most often used. I’ve got a DSLR but for everyday shots, especially when out & about it’s just easier to whip out the iPhone.

I use the default camera app for shooting, mainly cause I can access it from the lock screen. I then use a variety of programs for editing and sharing, depending what I want to do.

Obviously the main one is Instagram (you can follow me at @nightwolfs_den) for sharing.
For editing I use either A Beautiful Mess or the Rhonna Designs one. I also use PicFrame to create fun collages. I also love Collect now. It’s great for projects like P365 or any photo-a-day shots (I’m currently using it to track my 100 Happy Days project). Lots of people are using it for Project Life too.

Social network wise – Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Instagram and Pinterest are all on my phone. Keeps me connected when out in about. Too connected some times lol

And of course in the last few months quite a few pregnancy apps have made their way onto my phone.

What are your favourite apps? Anything you can’t live without?

My Passion Project

You may have guessed I love scrapbooking. It’s the one industry I would really, really love to work in.

I’ve been doing some thinking and looking into doing the party plan type thing after bub #2 is born as it’s something I could do in my own time.

I’d love to hear from you of your experiences with different companies. The ones I’m looking at so far are Kaszazz, Stampin Up  or CTMH

Cinco de Mayo

I will admit I know nothing about Cinco de Mayo so thanks to Wikipedia

Cinco de Mayo (Spanish for “fifth of May”) is a celebration held on May 5. It is celebrated in the United States[1] and in Mexico, primarily in the state of Puebla,[note 1][2][3][4] where the holiday is called El Día de la Batalla de Puebla (English: The Day of the Battle of Puebla).[5][6][7]

It originated with Mexican-American communities in the American West as a way to commemorate the cause of freedom and democracy during the first years of the American Civil War,[8][9] and today the date is observed in the United States as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride.[10] In the state of Puebla, the date is observed to commemorate the Mexican army‘s unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguín.[3][11] Cinco de Mayo is not Mexico’s Independence Day—the most important national patriotic holiday in Mexico—which is celebrated on September 16.

So there we go, know we all know a little more 🙂 You’re welcome

Weekend morning routine

What routine? LOL Seriously though we don’t really have a routine of a weekend that is any different to during the week. The joys of being a stay-at-home mum.

We get up, sometimes after a big cuddle session and a chat especially of a weekend. Breakfast. Shower. Then it’s on with our day.

Do you have morning routine of a weekend?
