World Ovarian Cancer Day

BnEH4AkCcAETjr8

Today is World Ovarian Cancer Day! Along with thousands of individuals around the globe, I have pledged to get the word out today about the most serious woman’s cancer to 5 people I care about. You are one of these!

Here is what I want to be sure you know:

  • The symptoms of ovarian cancer are vague – be aware of new changes – digestive issues, bloating, abdominal pain or urinary frequency that last for 3 weeks or more – and talk to your family doctor to get it checked.
  • Your family history is important! If you have a family history of breast or ovarian cancer on either side of your family, be sure to tell your family doctor about it. You may have a genetic predisposition – your doctor will be able to advise you about genetic testing and risk reduction.
  • Remember, there is NO early detection or screening test for ovarian cancer. Knowledge is the best defence!

Go Go Gadget

(oh dear that brings back memories)

Hmm my favourite, can’t live without gadget? It’d have to be my iPhone for sure. It’s my planner, my journal, my camera, my social network and so much more.

My favourite apps….

calendar-iconThe default calendar because I’m yet to find a free one I like better. I’m open to suggestions for something good.

IMG_07891Momento for journaling. I can’t say how much I love this app. I can journal everyday. It pulls all my linked social network posts and blogs posts. I can add photos. I’ve just learned I can back it up to Dropbox (which is great cause now I just upload the backup every couple of days & then I don’t have to stress about loosing anything – which happened last year)

My photography folder is the most often used. I’ve got a DSLR but for everyday shots, especially when out & about it’s just easier to whip out the iPhone.

I use the default camera app for shooting, mainly cause I can access it from the lock screen. I then use a variety of programs for editing and sharing, depending what I want to do.

Obviously the main one is Instagram (you can follow me at @nightwolfs_den) for sharing.
For editing I use either A Beautiful Mess or the Rhonna Designs one. I also use PicFrame to create fun collages. I also love Collect now. It’s great for projects like P365 or any photo-a-day shots (I’m currently using it to track my 100 Happy Days project). Lots of people are using it for Project Life too.

Social network wise – Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Instagram and Pinterest are all on my phone. Keeps me connected when out in about. Too connected some times lol

And of course in the last few months quite a few pregnancy apps have made their way onto my phone.

What are your favourite apps? Anything you can’t live without?

My Passion Project

You may have guessed I love scrapbooking. It’s the one industry I would really, really love to work in.

I’ve been doing some thinking and looking into doing the party plan type thing after bub #2 is born as it’s something I could do in my own time.

I’d love to hear from you of your experiences with different companies. The ones I’m looking at so far are Kaszazz, Stampin Up  or CTMH

Cinco de Mayo

I will admit I know nothing about Cinco de Mayo so thanks to Wikipedia

Cinco de Mayo (Spanish for “fifth of May”) is a celebration held on May 5. It is celebrated in the United States[1] and in Mexico, primarily in the state of Puebla,[note 1][2][3][4] where the holiday is called El Día de la Batalla de Puebla (English: The Day of the Battle of Puebla).[5][6][7]

It originated with Mexican-American communities in the American West as a way to commemorate the cause of freedom and democracy during the first years of the American Civil War,[8][9] and today the date is observed in the United States as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride.[10] In the state of Puebla, the date is observed to commemorate the Mexican army‘s unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguín.[3][11] Cinco de Mayo is not Mexico’s Independence Day—the most important national patriotic holiday in Mexico—which is celebrated on September 16.

So there we go, know we all know a little more 🙂 You’re welcome

Blogging Every Day in May 2014

Blog Every Day in May badge

You may remember I did something like this last May but it was hosted by a different blog. I found this year’s challenge via my new bloggy buddy  Em at Snowingindoors (you’ll meet her soon when we do a blog swap as part of International Blog Swap Day). Welcome if you’re new to my blog, nice to have you here *waves*

So day one’s topic is – What is your blog all about?

Nightwolf’s Den is a little craft, a little parenting & a lot of me.

A lot of the time I blog about my scrapbooking especially my Project Life pages and my design team work for Life in Details. When I’m not blogging about scrapbooking I love sharing recipes and now that I have a Thermomix I’m sharing recipes I’ve converted or have made.
Then there is the story of our renovations. We bought a ‘fixer-upper’ and are slowly working our way around the house – we’re about to have our bathroom gutted *squee* so I imagine I’ll be blogging about that.
Since finding out we’re expecting bub #2 I’ve restarted my pregnancy/parenting blog – From the Wolf’s Den.
I also post reviews & giveaways from time to time. I have one cause that is close to my heart, and I‘m often found on here & social media posting about it – Ovarian Cancer. Ladies, you need to know the symptoms!

Um, what else? Social media wise you can find me on Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Pinterest, and Instagram

So that’s pretty much this blog in a nutshell. If you’d like to know a bit more about me you can always check out my About Me page. Thanks for reading 🙂

Mozzies b gone {Review, Giveaway}

Disclaimer – I was given some Para’Kitoâ„¢ goodies to review. All wording and opinions, unless noted, are my own.

Now mozzies are probably something you think aren’t a big issue in Tasmania, especially as the weather gets colder but I can assure you I have sported some monster bites over winter in previous years. And don’t get me started on summer mozzies 😉 We’ve tried lots of different solutions to deter these buzzy pests but most smell vile and aren’t natural which isn’t a great option when you have littlies (or are pregnant).

Para’Kito™ provides a great alternative to those stinky, chemical sprays and roll-ons. Para’Kito™ pellets diffuse a blend, of 7 essential oils extracted from plants, which naturally prevents from mosquito bites effects (itching and irritation). The pellets can be used in the range of cute wristbands or clips.

The wristbands come in a range of colours and limited edition prints

Para’Kito™ Wristbands - Colours

Para’Kito™ Wristbands - Limited Editions

and the clips also come in a range of funky colours

Para’Kito™ Clips

Now I’ll be honest, I haven’t actually had a chance to use the wristbands myself because as soon as they arrived Miss K pinched the Hawaii print one and insisted on wearing it night and day – even to her swimming lessons (which lead her to pinching the blue one because she left the other in her swim bag). We did notice that during the 15 days she wore it the number of bites on her legs and arms was significantly less than normal. I do have one of the clips attached to my bag.

So how do these wristbands and clips work & what are the benefits?

  • they use a blend of 7 essential oils that are known to have repellent properties
  • each pellet lasts 15 days
  • are suitable for the whole family – including young children, pregnant women and those with allergies
  • waterproof
  • suitable for all areas
  • wristbands and clips RRP $24.95
  • refill packs – 2 pack RRP $15.95 or 6 pack RRP $33.95

Looking forward to wearing these over the summer (if I can hide them from Miss K) as I really hate mozzie bites and we’ll hopefully have our new BBQ area set up (that’s another post in itself) so I plan on spending some lazy summer evenings outside and relaxing in the hammock.

Now onto the giveaway – one lucky reader can win themself a Para’Kitoâ„¢ Family pack, valued at $90.80. The family pack includes 2 wristbands (with 2 refills), 1 clip (with 2 refills) and a 2 pack of refills.
Enter via the rafflecopter below. ENTRY IS OPEN TO AUSTRALIAN RESIDENTS ONLY.
Giveaway closes 18th May 2014.
