(and I’m behind on posting daily again)
You know what really gets my goat? For one that saying – what does it even mean? Well there you go. Public service for the day
Back to the matter at hand – if you’ve follow me on Facebook you’d have seen this post Thursday night
Backstory – Shane Crawford did a walk from Melbourne to Adelaide last year to raise money for Breast Cancer. Thursday on the AFL Footy Show he announced he was doing a bike ride from Melbourne to Perth, again raising money for Breast Cancer. This started my little rant on Facebook. I do think breast cancer is tragic and I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy BUT I get so sick of hearing about it and all the fundraising centred around breast cancer.
You hardly ever hear anything about other cancers (maybe with the exception of skin cancers in summer) and that really annoys me. It’s like all other cancers are lesser cancers. According to the Cancer Council website the most common cancers in Australia (excluding non-melanoma skin cancer) are prostate, colorectal (bowel), breast, melanoma and lung cancer. These five cancers account for over 60% of all cancers diagnosed in Australia. Why don’t we hear more about these other types of cancers? Why don’t we hear more about other women’s cancers like cervical & ovarian? Ovarian cancer is the eighth most common cancer and the sixth most common cause of cancer death affecting women in Australia.
I’d love to see more companies/sports clubs/celebrities/TV shows stand up and say there is more than just breast cancer and we’re here to support & raise money/awareness of these other types of cancers.
When events like White Shite Day, Afternoon Teal, Frocktober, Relay for Life and others get more national coverage it’ll be a great thing.
Do you support and cancer fundraising events? If so which ones?
A list of links to your favourite posts in your archives.
(I could have been serious but I decided to have a little fun with today’s topic – Get real. Share something you’re struggling with right now.)
How do you pick your favourite 20 songs from the last 20 years? Narrow it down even further to your favourite 20 songs from the last 20 years of Triple J’s Hottest 100 (yup the hottest 100 has been going for 20 years!). I’m struggling still. Maybe 1 song from each year? Other notable favs from each year in brackets
Could you pick just 20 songs. Give it a go over at the Triple J page. I struggled in the 2000s, some years more than others.
My five favourite blogs right now (in no particular order) & why I love them
…and how you’re working to overcome it
That’s taken me a couple of days to write cause I really wasn’t totally sure how to go about it :/
10: Most embarrassing moment (s). Spill. At the airport to pick up my cousin an in my excitement to see her I ran up to and hugged the wrong person. I was about 8 and mortified.
11: Sell yourself in 10 words or less. Mum, blogger, scrapbooker, fun, approachable, photographer, wife, cat lady, me.
12: What do you miss? (a person, a thing, a place, a time of your life…) My cousin. Gone too soon and I miss him.
13: Issue a public apology. This can be as funny or as serious or as creative as you want it to be.
(some great quotes on Pinterest)
14: Ten things that make you really happy
15: A Day in the life (include photos from throughout your typical day – this could be “a photo an hour” if you’d like) I used the Days app to capture some random snapshots though my day
Back later with today’s post
I’m so bad at keeping up with these things 😉
2 – Educate us on something you know a lot about or are good at. Take any approach you’d like (serious and educational or funny and sarcastic) – Something I’m good at – not keeping up with daily posts 😉
3 – Things that make you uncomfortable
5 – Publicly profess your love and devotion for one of your blogger friends. What makes them great? Why do you love them? If you don’t have blogger friends, talk about a real-life friend or even a family member. How can I choose just one hehe. Today I’ll go Fiona, Kelley, Eden, Lori. All amazing women, with different stories. Love them all.
6 – If you couldn’t answer with your job, how would you answer the question, ‘what do you do’? I’m a mum, wife, lover of photography, a reader, a scrapbooker and so much more
7 – The thing(s) you’re most afraid of
Evil things. They aren’t of this world, i swear.
8 – A piece of advice you have for others. Anything at all.
I saw this on Facebook tonight. Great advice
9 – A moment in my day. Seriously foggy morning that hung around most of the day
I’ll b back tomorrow with 10-15
