Blogging Every Day in May 2014

Blog Every Day in May badge

You may remember I did something like this last May but it was hosted by a different blog. I found this year’s challenge via my new bloggy buddy  Em at Snowingindoors (you’ll meet her soon when we do a blog swap as part of International Blog Swap Day). Welcome if you’re new to my blog, nice to have you here *waves*

So day one’s topic is – What is your blog all about?

Nightwolf’s Den is a little craft, a little parenting & a lot of me.

A lot of the time I blog about my scrapbooking especially my Project Life pages and my design team work for Life in Details. When I’m not blogging about scrapbooking I love sharing recipes and now that I have a Thermomix I’m sharing recipes I’ve converted or have made.
Then there is the story of our renovations. We bought a ‘fixer-upper’ and are slowly working our way around the house – we’re about to have our bathroom gutted *squee* so I imagine I’ll be blogging about that.
Since finding out we’re expecting bub #2 I’ve restarted my pregnancy/parenting blog – From the Wolf’s Den.
I also post reviews & giveaways from time to time. I have one cause that is close to my heart, and I‘m often found on here & social media posting about it – Ovarian Cancer. Ladies, you need to know the symptoms!

Um, what else? Social media wise you can find me on Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Pinterest, and Instagram

So that’s pretty much this blog in a nutshell. If you’d like to know a bit more about me you can always check out my About Me page. Thanks for reading 🙂

I read this today

It’s the June Photo a Day list from Fat Mum Slim. I’m looking forward to it. And I can’t believe I’ve managed to keep up with 5 month of photos (so far). I’m hoping to make it to the end of the year.

Do you do a Photo a Day? How are you going? You can follow all my daily photos on Instagram or on my ShutterCal

Traits

My three worst traits….

  1. Jealous. I can get really jealous, really easy.
  2. Bad tempered. I simmer on things then snap. Not a good thing.
  3. I can work too hard. When I’m coding web sites I tend to get lost in code and ignore everything else. This only happens after Miss K has gone to bed now so ignoring everything tends to b hubby (who does the same when he’s programing) and the clock meaning late nights and early mornings.

On my soapbox

(and I’m behind on posting daily again)

You know what really gets my goat? For one that saying – what does it even mean? Well there you go. Public service for the day

Back to the matter at hand – if you’ve follow me on Facebook you’d have seen this post Thursday night

Backstory – Shane Crawford did a walk from Melbourne to Adelaide last year to raise money for Breast Cancer. Thursday on the AFL Footy Show he announced he was doing a bike ride from Melbourne to Perth, again raising money for Breast Cancer. This started my little rant on Facebook. I do think breast cancer is tragic and I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy BUT I get so sick of hearing about it and all the fundraising centred around breast cancer.

You hardly ever hear anything about other cancers (maybe with the exception of skin cancers in summer) and that really annoys me. It’s like all other cancers are lesser cancers. According to the Cancer Council website the most common cancers in Australia (excluding non-melanoma skin cancer) are prostate, colorectal (bowel), breast, melanoma and lung cancer. These five cancers account for over 60% of all cancers diagnosed in Australia. Why don’t we hear more about these other types of cancers? Why don’t we hear more about other women’s cancers like cervical & ovarian? Ovarian cancer is the eighth most common cancer and the sixth most common cause of cancer death affecting women in Australia.

I’d love to see more companies/sports clubs/celebrities/TV shows stand up and say there is more than just breast cancer and we’re here to support & raise money/awareness of these other types of cancers.

When events like White Shite Day, Afternoon Teal, Frocktober, Relay for Life and others get more national coverage it’ll be a great thing.

Do you support and cancer fundraising events? If so which ones?

(I could have been serious but I decided to have a little fun with today’s topic – Get real. Share something you’re struggling with right now.)

How do you pick your favourite 20 songs from the last 20 years? Narrow it down even further to your favourite 20 songs from the last 20 years of Triple J’s Hottest 100 (yup the hottest 100 has been going for 20 years!). I’m struggling still. Fast 5 Favs

My five favourite blogs right now (in no particular order) & why I love them

  1. Autocratik – Dave’s a fellow RPGer from the UK. He’s written stuff for Conspiracy X (one of my favourite games) and Doctor Who: Adventures in Time & Space RPG. Currently writing his own RPG. Just nice to read a blog about one of my other favourite things to do (the majority of the blogs I read are fellow parenting blogs or craft blogs)
  2. A Vegas Girl at Heart – One of my favourite Project Life blogs. Melissa also does some great Project Life freebies.
  3. I’m cheating with this one cause it’s 3 of my favourite comic blogs – Two Lumps (if you love cats, check it out); The Devil’s Panties (cause she’s just funny & I can relate) and Weregeek (cause I’m just a geek)
  4. JustJenn Recipes – Food, Hello Kitty & Star Wars…. do I need to say any more
  5. Shimelle – I pink puffy heart Shimelle. I love her classes and her blog has lots of inspiration for scrapbookers
