Updating our reno to-do list

Back in July 2013 I created a list of all the things I wanted to do around our home. Fast forward a couple of years and I thought I’d update the list.

Hallway

  • skylight – still not sure about this

I’ve also been pinning up a storm of inspiration. Feel free to check out my boards – Bedroom, Laundry, Kitchen, Lounge, Garden.

The road to our new bathroom pt 3

Well there you go, I never got around to posting the final pictures of our new shiny bathroom. And it was finished over a year ago. So my bad.

Anywho here’s the before as a reminder for you all

Stunning wood panel hey! And now it looks like this …….

So much better. Warmer in winter. No nasty breezes. Glorious white tiles on the walls. So much easier to clean. Less storage but less clutter. Mind you it doesn’t look this tidy at the moment LOL

The road to our new bathroom pt 2

We started the new week with our new bath in and the plaster up. The tiler came in and did the waterproofing (which Miss K thought was awesome as we had an orange bathroom!) while the builders put in our new toilet window.

Tuesday was floor tiles and our new hot water cylinder

Wednesday through Friday was more tiling and grouting.

Another couple of days and I’ll be back with the finished bathroom.

The road to our new bathroom

As I mentioned in the Home Sweet Home post we’ve recently started renovating out bathroom. We looked at doing it ourselves then decided too hard and after a few quotes decided to go with locals, 2am Construction & Plastering.

When you look at the before pictures you can see why we needed to renovate – wood panelling – everywhere. Old bath. Old sink. Nearly no storage. Mould. And I hate it with a passion. It’s not somewhere I can go to relax and unwind. That & I think it was making us sick 🙁

We had no real idea of what we wanted to do except get rid of all the wood panelling and maybe use our awesome cast iron claw foot bath we’d been given. Sadly after much discussion with the builders and plumber it worked out we couldn’t really use (or afford to use) our bath. Boo. On the upside we have a bath for when we win Tattslotto and build up and get an ensuite on our new bathroom. Hey a girl can dream, right?

The first couple of days was gutting the bathroom completely, plumbing, moving power points and light switches, putting in the new bath and bathroom window. Then it was plastering the walls.

Having no bathroom has been fun but thanks to the in-laws we’ve been showering there.
I’ll be back in a couple of days with the next stage – waterproofing and tiling.

Where’s Ya Noms at

(taking a quick break from the Blog Every Day in May posts to bring you another post in my Our House series)

I *heart* me some Drunk Kitchen. Google it hehe (Thanks to the lovely Fiona for first sharing it with me). See there I go getting distracted with music again. Where were we? Ah yes the kitchen. This is what we got when we bought the house

Now I don’t know about you but wood paneling in a kitchen, really isn’t my thing. It’s a total pain in the real to clean. That lovely stove in the corner – broken so our first step was a new stove. Then we decided the island thing was blocking a lot of light so it went. Then Miss K came along and it really wasn’t suitable so new kitchen was to be had. And didn’t we take great delight in helping rip out the cupboards & wood paneling. And our new kitchen slowly took shape over a couple of days (plus the time later to get tiling done and new flooring)

And I got a new glass hotplate and wall oven *squee* and our dishwasher got put in.

(I’ll edit this post later with a picture of the kitchen when it’s clean – at the moment it’s a tad messy)

Love my kitchen now.

Our House

in the middle of our street.

Love that song, it’s such a classic. Anywho, that’s a slight distraction from what I actually want to write about today. When we bought our house about 5years ago we bought it as a renovation project. A very slow renovation project. But that’s ok. I thought about starting a new blog to record what we did but we all know I struggle with keeping more than one blog 😉 so I’ll be sharing our reno here under the category of Our House.

When we moved in we painted what was to become our temporary office/computer room and that was pretty much it. Everything else needed lots of work.

This was what our ‘office’ was for the first few weeks, where we survived on dial up internet waiting for our ADSL to be hooked back up

Our first semi major project was to rip this out.

We thought it was going to be difficult but it was all held in with a couple of screws. Easy – yup I did it at 9 months pregnant!

Next up was our kitchen cause the kitchen we had wasn’t great for a little person….
