In the Den Kitchen–a Frozen birthday

Welcome back to another week of In the Den Kitchen. I took a break last week due to being super busy with a certain 5 yo who wanted a Frozen birthday party. Today I’m just sharing links to some of the food I cooked.

There was the usual sausage rolls, party pies, cocktail savs, sandwiches & fairy bread. Plus mini Italian lamb meatballs from Thermofun and frozen blue jelly “ice” cubes. I’ve linked to the original recipe but here is my changes

[yumprint-recipe id=’15’]and then the cake – a simple 3 layer butter cake. The bottom layer was plain, the second layer had 5 drops of blue colouring & the top layer had 10 drops of blue colouring. Covered in blue buttercream and snow made of marshmallow fondant. Topped with a mini Anna & Elsa ($5 each from Kmart) and some candy ice (scroll down. OMG this recipe makes sooooooooo much. I’d halve it, or even quarter it next time. FYI you can just use glucose syrup instead of light corn syrup.), candles & a 5 sparkler

In the Den Kitchen – Banana Biscuits

With Miss K starting kindy next week I’m in full ‘baking to freeze for lunch box’ mode. I spotted the recipe for Banana Biscuits on Kidspot and thought they looked pretty yum, and healthy. And easy to convert to do in the Thermomix. So here is my thermo conversion Banana Biscuits

In the Den Kitchen: Chocolate Orange Drizzle Cake

One of the series I’m bringing back in 2015 is In the Den Kitchen. Each Friday I’ll be sharing one of my favourite recipes. Some will be Thermomix, so will be normal recipes, sometimes it’ll be a Thermomix conversion with the normal recipe as well.

The first recipe of the year is a Thermo conversion. It was Dad’s birthday this week and I made him his favourite cake (& a family favourite) – Chocolate Orange Drizzle Cake

In the Den Kitchen

Something I’ve decided to do from now on is make more for Miss K for her day care lunch boxes. This week we tried a new sandwich filling and I converted a favourite muffin recipe so I can do it in the Thermomix.

The sandwich filling was found at Kidspot – chicken carrot & celery. I shredded the chicken and chopped the carrot & celery in the Thermomix, making it even quicker and we left our the yoghurt, only cause we didn’t have any. Miss K enjoyed it and has asked for it again. Score one me!

This week’s snack was Apple Bran Muffins

In the Den Kitchen – Leek & Potato Soup

One of the joys of owning a Thermomix is converting all your favourite recipes so you can do them in the Thermo.

I’ve given a few a go but didn’t write them down *doh* so I have started a notebook. Yes, old fashioned I know. Each recipe I convert I’ll be writing down as I go and making notes so I know what works and doesn’t work.

One of the first recipes I’ve converted is mum’s leek & potato soup recipe. I thought, with winter coming up here in Australia (not that you’d know it – it’s unseasonably dry & warm where I am) soup will become a staple on our menu plan each fortnight. I’m sharing the original recipe given to me by mum & my thermo conversion.

Enjoy!
